Support For Our Service Families

Welcome to the Service Pupil Support page for Sandhurst School. As a school with excellent links to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), we are immensely proud of our Armed Forces West community. We recognise that military life, while rewarding, can bring unique challenges such as frequent relocation, parental deployment, and extended separation.

Through the Armed Forces Families Fund, the Corvus Learning Trust has appointed a dedicated Trust-Wide Service Pupils Support Champion to ensure our Service children are heard, celebrated, and supported to achieve their full potential.

Meet Mrs Kennedy - Our Service Pupils Support Champion

Mrs Kennedy joined the Trust in October 2025 in this specialist role. She works across all schools in the Trust but is based here at Sandhurst School. Mrs Kennedy acts as a dedicated advocate for Service children and a central point of contact for their parents.

How the Service Pupils Support Champion Supports Our Students and Families

Mrs Kennedy’s work is designed to provide stability amidst the mobility of Service life. Her key focus areas include:

  • Tailored Transitions: Managing the ‘inbound and outbound’ journey. Whether your child is joining us mid-term or preparing for a posting elsewhere, we ensure records, curriculum gaps, and wellbeing needs are prioritised.
  • The Army Morning Club: A dedicated space at Sandhurst School run jointly with the Army Welfare Service (AWS) for Service pupils to meet, share experiences, and build a sense of belonging with peers who "just get it."
  • Pastoral Advocacy: Mrs Kennedy works closely with our Senior Leadership Team, Pastoral Team and teachers to ensure they understand the emotional impact of deployment or "masking" (where a student appears fine but is struggling internally).
  • Specialist Intervention: From securing assistive technology for students with neurodiverse needs to providing quiet-space provisions during times of high stress, we ensure support is agile and immediate.
  • Liaison with RMAS & AWS: Our Service Pupils Support Champion maintains a direct link with the Army Welfare Service (AWS) and RMAS Welfare Officers, ensuring our families can access the full breadth of military support available.

Our Commitment: The Thriving Lives Toolkit

Sandhurst School utilises the Thriving Lives Toolkit - a framework developed to help schools provide the very best support for Service children. We focus on ensuring our pupils feel:

  1. Supported through family separation.
  2. Included in all aspects of school life.
  3. Heard when they face challenges unique to military life.
  4. Empowered to achieve academic success, regardless of how many schools they have attended.

Get In Touch

We encourage all Service parents to get in touch. Whether you have a deployment on the horizon or are just moving into the area, we are here to help.
