The Launch Pad
Welcome to The Launch Pad! The SRP at Sandhurst School
What is an SRP?
Specially Resourced Provisions (SRPs) are for children who have, or who are likely to have, an EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plan).
Resourced provisions are where places are reserved at a mainstream school for pupils with a specific type of SEN, taught mainly within mainstream classes, but requiring a base and some specialist facilities around the school. They are usually for pupils with EHCP plans.
Admissions to any of the SRPs will follow Bracknell Forest’s usual admissions procedure and requests should be made to the SEN Team.
What does the SRP look like at Sandhurst School?
The Launch Pad is due to open its doors in September 2024. It is part of a Local Authority programme of SEND improvements, which will eventually support up to 25 students over the course of five years. In the first year of the SRP, Sandhurst School will welcome its first five Year 7 students.
The Launch Pad is a brand-new resource and represents an investment of approximately £900,000 by Bracknell Forest, as a means of improving SEN provision. The build, which is due to be finished by January 2025, will provide the SRP with purpose-built classrooms, therapy spaces and other bespoke areas to support students with their SEN. The purpose of the SRP at Sandhurst is to support students whose primary need is speech, communication and language-related learning difficulties, although it is expected that these pupils will likely have secondary needs as well.
While the aim is that students who join the SRP will spend approximately 50% of their time in the main school curriculum, a significant portion of their education, including English, maths and science will be delivered by the SEN team. This team is made up of a number of professionals, including a specialist SEN teacher, the SENDCo, Deputy SENDCo and HLTAs.
There is a high adult ratio within The Launch Pad. Children spend up to half of their day within the provision in order to meet their needs through a variety of approaches as well as time in the mainstream class with their peers, where appropriate. The mainstream classes they may join could include subjects like technology, art and PE.
What are the aims of the SRPs?
The Launch Pad has been created to support young people with a variety of needs. The Launch Pad enables students to
- have access to a curriculum that is personalised to their needs relating to the outcomes on their EHCP
- be comfortable in a classroom environment and have a level of cognition and language that enables them to access at least some of the whole class curriculum and learning environment
- benefit from small group or 1:1 intervention work to meet their needs identified within their EHCP or specific targets set by outside agencies
- benefit from regular sensory input and breaks built into their school day
- benefit from attending some of their year group classes and from regular social interaction with their peers
- access additional specialist support, in order to successfully achieve their educational outcomes
- gain strategies to manage increasing independence in their learning and achieve their full potential through the additional support and targeted intervention available
