Literacy
At Sandhurst School we believe that a quality Literacy curriculum should develop children’s love of reading, writing and discussion, we understand the importance of Literacy and the impact it can have on students’ academic achievements. Young people who read daily in their free time are twice as likely to read above the level expected for their age than children who don’t read daily (National Literacy Trust, 2019). Literacy is key to academic success across the curriculum and Sandhurst School is committed to supporting students to read, write and communicate effectively in all of their subjects. We create a culture where children take pride in their writing and we want to inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and who can use discussion to communicate and further their learning. We believe that a secure basis in Literacy skills is crucial to a high-quality education and will give our children the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.
